1. What have you found is the most effective way of teaching any student?

Students learn best when they feel they can trust their teacher.

2. What do you feel is the most important thing you can offer as an educator?

Empathy

3. What do you personally consider a troubled home?

I believe that every home has its troubles from time to time. Anything that causes stress to someone is what I consider a troubled home.

4. Can you tell the difference in a child’s behavior and/ or social skills from which you can infer that the students may be from a troubled home?

Sometimes a child will exhibit behaviors to indicate that perhaps there is something going on at home.

5. How easy is it for you to tell when a child may be from an abusive or troubled home?

Most of the time, that is a very difficult task. Most of the time children try to cover up the fact that something is going on.

6. What have you found are the most prominent characteristic of a child from a troubled home?

Typically acting out in some way.

7. How well do children from troubled homes perform in the classroom when compared to children from average homes?

Usually these students have a more difficult time performing up to their ability.

8. Do you find that most children from troubled homes tend to perform this way due to lack of effort or encouragement?

It is hard to tell a child’s reasons for not performing.


9. What have you found encourages these children to perform to the best of their abilities?

If a child feels like they can trust you they will usually perform for you.

10. Is it your opinion that encouraging a child to learn or loving and working with the child on his or her own needs and standards? *Note: I consider “working with the child” a euphemism for special treatment.

I try to treat each child specially and give each child “special treatment."
